Michelle Malkin reports that two Democratic members of the House of Representatives had travel expenses paid for by lobbyist Jack Abramoff, the same lobbyist who paid for a trip by Rep. Tom Delay that the Democrats are all upset about.
AP's got the scoop on two Democratic congressmen, not just beleaguered GOP Rep. Tom DeLay, who received travel expenses initially paid by lobbyist Jack Abramoff on his credit card or by his firm. The Dems are Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, who like DeLay, says he was unaware of the payments and Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, who did not return several calls from AP seeking comment.
Captain's Quarters has more.
We had hoped the Republicans would make an issue of Democrats' ethics issues. As the House ethics committee reconvenes at the Democrats' demand, we think the first name submitted by the Republican members should be House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. Clyburn and Thompson can be dealt with if warranted, but it'll be tough for Republicans to argue that their conduct was in violation of House rules after spending the last few months arguing that Delay's identical conduct was not a violation. Priority should be given to their leadership, starting with Pelosi. Fight fire with fire.
