Has Professor Bainbridge joined MECHA?

In response to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's recent comments in support of the Minuteman Project in Arizona, Professor Bainbridge comments:

One can but assume that Arnie's worries about winning the GOP gubernatorial primary in 2006 have prompted him to appeal to the nativist/racist wing of the state party.

People who want to control illegal immigration into the United States are racists? What utter nonsense! Professor Bainbridge's statement is itself bigoted. Has the Professor been hanging out with his campus MECHA chapter lately or what?

This is the sort of brain-dead slander we typically hear from the left - You support border security? You're a racist. You oppose affirmative action? You're a racist.

We're pretty surprised to hear that sort of unmitigated drivel from the professor. Maybe he just had too much wine with dinner.

Update: Michelle Malkin has responded to Bainbridge here.

  1. Thank God for the Minutemen and thank God there are still some conservatives in the GOP.
Little did I know when I voted for Bush in 04 that he was a closet liberal? I thought he wanted to win the War on Terror. Not join up with the ACLU (vigilantes indeed) and surrender to Al Queda.

On Larry Elder’s show Wednesday night two weeks ago Larry said that the minutemen had reduced criminal immigration by 75%!. Or the rate of criminals crossing the border was only 25% of what it had been before the Minuteman Project! Sounds very positive!

I'm getting a lot of email flack for having agreed with President Bush that the Minutemen are vigilantes. The top definition of vigilante kicked up by Google is

  4. Maybe the professor knows what he is talking about. The minuteman project completely misinterprets MEChA's intentions, which are to spread the knowledge of Mexican-American and other Latino cultures. They're not separatists trying to form a new nation called Aztlan. Aztlan is what they call the Southwest because it's where most Chicano's reside and they are a new generation of Latinos. Do your research before bashing the professor, and not only on the minuteman project... steer clear from biased information.

  5. Sorry Erick, MECHA is a radical separatist organization.
