Preferring another potential nominee is not "sexist"

We must begin by saying that, like so many Americans, we really love and admire Laura Bush. But this line that "it's possible" that sexism is playing a role in the opposition to the nomination of Harriet Miers is just plain insulting. When they have to trot out the tired epithets of the left to make their case for a nominee, perhaps that's more evidence they could have made a better choice.

It's impossible to make the case that people who often list Janice Rogers-Brown, Alice Batchelder, Edith Jones, Priscilla Owen, and other women among their preferred picks are being sexist in opposing Miers. Of course, a preference for one of the potential nominees who has the unfortunate handicap of being a man isn't proof of sexism either. Resorting to "stop picking on the girl" in response to any criticism is cheap and low. We expect that from the left. We expect better from the right.

Michelle Malkin isn't happy with the first lady's comments. They're also unimpressed at Confirm Them. And similar thoughts from Captain's Quarters.

  1. When you have no argument, you insult, you denigrate. Had hoped for more from the 1st Lady.
