Dems for Darfur, against Iraq

Mark Steyn pretty well sums it up:

The only energy displayed by Nancy Pelosi was the spectacular leap to her feet within a nano-second of the president mentioning Darfur. Up went Madam Speaker and the entire Democratic caucus like enthusiastic loons on a gameshow. Darfur! We’re all in favor of Darfur. People are being murdered! Hundreds of thousands! We oughtta do something! Like, er, jump up and down when it’s mentioned in a speech. And, er, call for the international community to mobilize…

Darfur is an apt symbol of early 21st century liberalism: What matters is that you urge action rather than take any. On Iraq, meanwhile, the president declared: “Let us find our resolve, and turn events toward victory.” And the Dems sat on their hands.

As others have argued, the Democrats’ support for military action seems to be inversely proportional to its connection to our national security interests.

Jihad Jimmy

The NY Post catches Jimmy Carter seeming to offer approval of Palestinian murder-suicide bombers:

Has a former president of the United States – a Nobel Peace Prize winner, no less – given his blessing to wanton murder and terrorist assaults against Israel?

Sure looks that way.

How else to read that astonishing statement on page 213 of Jimmy Carter’s new anti-Israel screed, “Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid”?

To wit: “It is imperative that the general Arab community and all significant Palestinian groups make it clear that they will end the suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism when international laws and the ultimate goals of the Roadmap for Peace are accepted by Israel.” (Emphasis added.)

You don’t have to read between the lines here.

Carter isn’t calling on the Palestinians to give up terror and murder now as a way to convince Israel they are serious about peace. Rather, he says they can wait until they’ve achieved their goals at the bargaining table. No need, says Carter, to give up terrorism until then.

This execrable man’s reputation as some sort of great humanitarian is a sham.

Mt. Soledad Cross update

From michellemalkin.com, an update on the Radical Atheists vs. Mt. Soledad Cross case:

…a previous order requiring the City of San Diego to remove the Mount Soledad War Memorial Cross has been vacated–by the (extremely liberal) Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The litigation continues, however.

Of course the litigation continues. The ACLU never sleeps, to paraphrase an old saying. But this is a positive development, none the less.
